5 Top Questions from the 2019 NRF Event

Last week, our sales team flew out to National Retail Federation (NRF) 2019: Retail’s Big Show at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.

It is fitting that the world’s largest retail trade association would host “the world’s largest retail conference and expo”: 37,000 international attendees and more than 700 exhibitors and 75 sessions. The annual conference starts the new year with a look into the future of retail: “celebrating current rising stars,” seeing and testing “innovative technologies,” and takeaways from speakers and networking with everyone from startups to industry leaders.

Our team was grateful to be there as an invitation from VMware to co-sponsor with them. As a highly preferred partner, we attended and showcased QOS at the VMware both at NRF alongside Windstream and Zscaler. There, our team was able to assess the current marketplace and what enterprises are interested in.

Here are the top 5 questions that retail enterprises at NRF are asking about the network and SD-WAN:

  1. What is SD-WAN?

SD-WAN stands for “software-defined wide area networks,” and “the idea is to have software take control of higher-level management of a network which simplifies the hardware required and makes configuration easier. In simpler terms, SD-WAN provides reliabile connectivity to both branch locations and your cloud and data center locations. It addresses jitter, latency, and packet loss to ensure whatever connected platform you have at the edge is performing optimally.”

  1. Does the SD-WAN Solution include transport?

“No, transport is provided through your local service provider. QOS Networks has partnerships with various service providers and can help to facilitate transport needs.”

  1. Can this solution be provided both in the cloud and/or on premises as well?

“SD-WAN works as seamlessly with a cloud-based network as it does with an on-premises network. Regardless of where your data sits, the SD-WAN platform can integrate with a physical device or a virtual license on a white box.”

  1. Can this solution tie/integrate into other enterprise applications via API?

“Yes – QOS has helped many customers integrate their ITSM systems and other enterprise apps. QOS has a dedicated internal team for DevOp projects for custom API integrations. We frequently work with partners to develop integrations for their applications, platforms, and cloud solutions.”

  1. How would we work with your company [QOS Networks]?

QOS is a preferred partner of VMware. We are a managed network service provider that works directly with customers to provide the SD-WAN solution as well as performing the design, deployment, and long-term support of the solution.”

These inquiries really bring to light the big underlying question: why should enterprises care about SD-WAN? The benefits are clear: transport independence, security, simplifying the complex, and a better user experience. Overall, SD-WAN is better for your business.

Although SD-WAN is not a new technology, enterprises are still in the phase of early adoption. Nonetheless, these questions demonstrate movement up the growth curve into the education phase. Thus, enterprises are currently on an upward trend towards more mainstream adoption.
